UEFA CUP: Cypriot champions thrash Greece’s champions

Cypriot champions Anorthosis are just one game away from becoming the first Cypriot team to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage after beating 3-0 Greek champions Olympiacos CFP, Wednesday night, in Larnaca.

In front of 10.000 spectators Anorthosis, a refugee club from Famagusta under Turkish occupation since 1974, opened the score in the 5th minute through an own goal by Vassilis Torosides.

Polish striker Lukasz Sosin doubled Anorthosis' goals through a header in the 18th minute.

Three minutes before the end of the match at "Antonis Papadopoulos" Stadium, French Vincent Laban netted for a third time for Anorthosis.

The second leg will be played in 15 days in Athens.

Temuri Ketsbaia's side had overcome SK Rapid Wien. In the first leg at home Anorthosis had won 3-0 and were defetad 3-1 away.

Two other Cypriot teams, APOEL and Omonia, play tonight for the UEFA Cup second qualifying round.

Cup winners APOEL play at home with Red Star of Belgrade while runners up Omonia play away in Athens against AEK.
