Cyprus’ trade deficit increases in January-May 2008

Cyprus' trade deficit was 2.4 bln euros in January-May 2008 compared to 1.9 bln euros in January-May 2007, according to figures released by the Statistical Service (CyStat).

In its monthly report ''Intra-Extra EU Trade Statistics (Summarised Data)'' for May 2008, the Statistical Service notes that total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) in January-May 2008 amounted to 2,948.0 million euros as compared to 2,436.8 million euros in January-May 2007.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-May 2008 were 469.9 million euros compared to 470.9 million euros in January-May 2007.

During May 2008, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) valued at 662.1 million euros.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions, in May 2008 amounted to 112.8 million euros.

Exports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were 57.1 million euros whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were 55.7 million euros.
