Cypriot Archbishop expresses satisfaction with the outcome of his visit to Russia

Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of his official visit to Russia.

Speaking yesterday at Larnaca airport, on his return from Russia, Archbishop Chrysostomos stated that “the Government, the Church and the people of Russia, once again have expressed their support to the people of Cyprus that is struggling for freedom and justice”.

“We have exchanged views with the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexios II, seeking ways to strengthen further more the relations between the Churches of Russia and Cyprus”, he said.

Archbishop Chrysostomos also referred to the support the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed towards the people of Cyprus and its struggle for freedom and reunification of the island.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
