‘Cyprus – a Culinary Journey’ is the first German-language book for aficionados of culinary travel, created by Marilena Joannides, Franz Keller, Markus Bassler, Marianne Salentin-Träger and other connoisseurs
The German edition is published by Callwey, Munich, while the English edition, published by C&C Frankfurt.

The book (“Verführerisches Zypern” in German) portrays, in its out-of-the-ordinary way, encounters with the people, culture, nature and traditions of this fascinating Mediterranean island. Lavish illustrations, enchanting stories and reportage invite the reader, over 336 pages, to go on a wholly exceptional culinary journey through Aphrodite’s isle.
Culinary expert Marilena Joannides and top chef Franz Keller researched around 70 recipes, partly created anew and personally prepared. The layout was arranged by graphic designer Oliver Hick-Schulz and visualised by leading gourmet-food photographer Markus Bassler. The book features outstanding portraits by photographer Anja Jahn and captivating reportage by author Rita Henss that arose during their joint visits to people’s homes, kitchens and workplaces. In a separate chapter on wine, sommelière Astrid Zieglmeier devotes her time to the island’s wine cellars, with their indigenous varieties of grape. Through changing seasons, the team of culinary experts spent 150 days together with the country and its people.

The idea for this book, supported by the CTO originated during a photographic journey taken by Markus Bassler and Marianne Salentin-Träger through Cyprus. Enthused by the country and its inhabitants, a team of experts subsequently formed around the editor: “The concept is just what a country and its hospitality deserve. That’s shown not least in the work put into the photos, the choice of paper, the printing and the making of the finished product – uncompromising and simple: the best of everything!”
The book was printed in 5,000 copies and sells for 40 euros.
