Cyprus EU Presidency’s cost down by 16 million euro

In statements after the meeting, Omirou praised the successful work of the Secretariat and especially of the Deputy Minister for European Affairs and pointed out that it has managed to save 16 million euro from the initial budget of around 62 million.

“This achievement shows the path we all have to follow in this country”, Omirou said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that "the successful Cyprus EU Presidency has enhanced our confidence and showed that we can respond successfully to difficult international or European missions despite the small size of our country”.

Referring to the parliamentary dimension of the Cyprus EU Presidency, Omirou said he was fully satisfied with the fact that the House of Representatives managed to successfully organize eight Inter-parliamentary Conferences.

In his statements, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs noted that the savings were made through “good management and attention to every euro spent”.

He explained that the budget approved by the House stood at 61.7 million, while the final cost reached 46 million, a saving of 16 million (12 million from the Secretariat and additional 4 million from other expenditure).

Mavroyiannis expressed his gratitude to the House of Representatives for “its great contribution” to the successful outcome of the Cyprus EU Presidency.
