CYPRUS: Three arrested over assassination plot against Attorney General

Three men have been arrested over an alleged plot to assassinate the Attorney General of the Republic Petros Clerides.

The three suspects were arrested by the Police between Sunday night and Monday morning and are currently being questioned on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
At 12:00 noon, they are expected to be brought before the Nicosia District Court to issue a remand order against the three men in order to facilitate police investigations.
Spokesperson at the police press office told CNA that acting on specific information Police conducted a special operation in Nicosia, during which they discovered, among other items, an anti-tank launcher.

Police did not give any official information on the identity of the suspects, although one of the three men is believed to be a former army officer.
Petros Clerides was appointed in 2005 and is the state’s top legal adviser and prosecutor.
