A new record-breaking passenger traffic at Pafos International Airport was announced on Tuesday by Hermes Airports Ltd, the company in charge of the management and control of Larnaka International Airport and Pafos International Airport.

A press release issued by the company said that according to the latest records, from 01 January 2012 to 22 October 2012, more than 2,000,000 passengers travelled via Pafos International Airport.

This is the first time in the Airport’s 29 year history that the record of 2 million passengers has been achieved. In comparison with last year`s figures this means a significant increase of 28% which shatters the previous record of 2006 when 1,832,655 passengers passed through Pafos Airport, as it is noted.

In a statement, Chief Executive Officer of Hermes Airports Alfred van der Meer said: “We are delighted with the new passenger traffic record at Pafos International Airport. Considering that there are still two and a half months to go before the end of the year, the total number of passengers travelling through Pafos airport in 2012 will obviously be even higher. This development is a hopeful message for us, as well as for the tourism industry in Cyprus," he added.

"We all know that the battered economy of Cyprus is struggling to overcome the difficulties it faces. On our side, we are fully aware of the critical moments Cyprus is going through and we assure everyone that we will do our best to boost the tourist flow to Cyprus as part of the joint effort by all Cypriots," he stressed.
