CYPRUS: The number of unemployed persons for September 2012 reaches 38.253

The number of registered unemployed for September 2012 has increased to 38.253 persons compared to 36.967 in the previous month.

The Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus said that in comparison with September 2011, the number of unemployed persons increased by 8.367 or 27.99%.

Based on the data of the District Labour Offices, the number of unemployed persons in September 2012 reached 33.866 persons.

In comparison with September 2011, an increase of 7.383 persons or 27,9% was recorded which was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (an increase of 1.699 unemployed persons), trade (an increase of 1.526), manufacturing (an increase of 887), public administration (an increase of 770), accommodation and food service activities (an increase of 524), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 374 unemployed persons was recorded.
