Russian Patriarch on official visit to Cyprus

Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russians arrives in Cyprus today at the invitation of the primate of the Church of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos.

He will be accompanied by clerics and officials of the Church of Russia.

A statement issued by the Archbishopric said that an official welcoming ceremony will take place at the Holy Archbishopric.

On Sunday, the two religious leaders will officiate a service at Agia Sofia Church in Nicosia and on Monday a liturgy at Apostle Varnavas Church in Dasoupoli, to celebrate the celebrate the founder and protector of the Church of Cyprus, Apostle Varnavas.

Patriarch Kirill will meet President of the Republic Demetris Christofias on Monday before departing in the afternoon.
