Minister of Finance Kikis Kazamias revealed on Wednesday that a foreign investor is seriously interested in investing in a large project that would boost both the flagging construction industry and Cyprus' tourism sector.

Kazamias accompanied the foreign investor during a meeting with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias.

''The particular possible investment is both large and serious and concerns the possibility for an investment in any location deemed appropriate for the construction industry and which would boost our tourist product,'' he said responding to questions, adding the project concerns ''a big building complex which would enrich our tourist product.''

Kazamias declined to elaborate, noting that further details will be given by the investor himself.

Replying to a question, the Finance Minister said that there are other similar proposals from other investors.

''The joint investment with Qatar is only the beginning. The contacts we had and continue to have are multiplying. We are evaluating,'' he said.

Replying to a question on today's announcement that Cyprus' block 12 revealed 5 to 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, Kazamias said that ''if we continue dealing with the issue with the same seriousness thinks will go better.''

''The times we are facing are not the easiest and even an announcement of this content does not allow us to fly to the clouds. We should be down to earth, serious and to prove we are ready to make the correct management. Problems cannot be overcome on their own. We continue to live in a difficult financial environment not because of the internal situation but because of the international environment,'' he added.

Replying to a question on the economy, Kazamias reiterated that the government wishes to resolve the problems of the economy as soon as possible, adding that the measures and the budget adopted by the Parliament lead towards that direction.

Noting that he received proposals for new projects coming either from foreign investors or by foreign residents in Cyprus, the Finance Minister added that even the slightest improvement of the situation in Cyprus ''encourages them to make large scale investments of serious content.''
