Seasonal unemployment in Cyprus falls in June

In the first sign of good news for a long time in the Cyprus labour market, the Statistical Service announced that the number of registered unemployed based on seasonally adjusted data fell in June to 28,178, from 28,375 in May.
In absolute terms, the number of unemployed reached 27,102, down from 28,401 in May.
However, compared with June 2010 there was an increase of 4,264, or 20.7%.
The main increase over the year earlier was in wholesale and retail trade (1,322), construction (770), accommodation and food service activities (413), transportation and storage (375), manufacturing (358) and education (179).
Newcomers to the labour market registering as unemployed rose by 863 in the same period.
