Cyprus unemployment trends upwards again in February

Registered unemployment trended upwards again in February, with the number of people registering as unemployed rising by 24.5% compared with the year year earlier, up from 22.3% in January and 19.3% in December.
The total number of registered unemployed was 29,806 persons.
The trend was also upwards on a seasonally adjusted basis, with the number of registered unemployed for February 2011 rising by 2.6% over the previous month to reach 25,900 (seasonally adjusted).
The main increase relative to the previous year was in retail and wholesale trade (an increase of 1,165), accommodation and food service activities (1,020), construction (744), manufacturing (507), education (429), and transportation and storage (354).
Newcomers to the labour market registering as unemployed rose by 1,410.
