CYPRUS NEWSPAPER COPYRIGHT PIRACY: Are you breaking the law?

Did you know that copying, storing and distributing articles from the Financial Mirror’s print, electronic and Internet editions are illegal?
European and international laws ensure that the rights of copyright holders are respected and in this sense encourage companies and public organisations to secure permission from the publishers through licensing services.
However, in Cyprus, the Financial Mirror and other newspaper titles have been victims of copyright infringement, whereby the contents of the newspapers and the websites are copied without prior permission and sold or passed on by public relations or media monitoring agencies to banks, public organisations, universities, etc.
In the past 17 years of operation, the Financial Mirror has respected the copyright of all contributors, news suppliers and syndication services. All that we ask is that others, too, respect our rights and avoid reproducing, distributing or even receiving our articles without our permission. Non-compliance with this request simply makes users liable to court prosecution for copyright theft.
At present, the Financial Mirror has a full licensing agreement in Cyprus with MatrixMedia, while a limited licensing permission has only been granted to Action Global Communications.
