Cyprus seasonal unemployment rises in August

The number of unemployed persons registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of August 2010 reached 22.365 persons according to the Statistical Service. According to the seasonally adjusted data, the number of registered unemployed for August 2010 recorded an increase of 2.4% compared with the previous month and reached 23,725 persons.
In comparison with August 2009.,an increase of 4.577 persons or 25.7% was recorded. This was lower than the pace of increase earlier in the year.
The increase was mainly observed in the sectors of wholesale and retail trade (an increase of 806), construction (599), hotels and restaurants (535), manufacturing (454), public administration (384), real estate and business activities (303) and education (265).
The number of unemployed newcomers to the labour market rose by 686.
