After many weeks of intense negotiations, Irish low cost airline Ryanair has agreed to include Larnaca in its destinations.
The decision was taken on Monday evening and Hermes Airports has already been informed.
Invited to comment, Hermes Airports spokesman Adamos Aspris confirmed the decision, describing it as a “very important development”. He said Ryanair’s presence on the island will “further enrich Cyprus’ air connectivity with Europe and will be a catalyst in efforts to increase the influx of tourism to the island”.
Ryanair is scheduled to announce details of the decision to start flights to and from Cyprus on Wednesday. Hermes Airports, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and the government have been coordinating efforts to bring the Irish airline to Cyprus.
Ryanair is the third largest airline in Europe in terms of passenger numbers and the largest in the world in terms of international passenger numbers.
