President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat are meeting today in the context of the UN-led talks, and are expected to discuss external relations.

Present at today’s meeting will be UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer and Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus Taye Brook Zerihoun.

At their last meeting on December 2, the two leaders discussed matters relating to the civil service and the civil service commission, on which they shared some views and disagreed on others.

President Christofias and Talat have been engaged in direct negotiations since early September this year, aiming at reuniting the island, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
