Cyprus trade deficit widens in January-September

The trade deficit in Cyprus widened to EUR 4,727.4 mln in January-September 2008 , compared with EUR 3,827.7 mln in January-September 2007.
Total imports/arrivals amounted to EUR 5,601.5 mln in January-September, compared with EUR 4,646.4 mln in January-September 2007, a rise of 20.6%.
Total imports cover imports from third countries and arrivals from other EU member states.
Exports also rose, but by a much smaller amount. Total exports/dispatches in January-September 2008 rose by 6.8% to EUR 874.1 mln, compared with EUR 818.7 mln in January-September 2007.
Total exports cover exports to third countries and dispatches to other EU member states.

In September alone total imports/arrivals reached EUR 662.9 mln, while total exports amounted to EUR 88.1 mln.
Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were recorded at EUR 34.8 mln, whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were recorded at EUR 53.3 mln.
