The MoC was signed here Monday by Cypriot Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Sotiroula Charalambous and Greek Minister for Employment and Social Protection Fani Palli Petralia, who is currently in Cyprus for a two – day visit.

The MoC aims at strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in various areas concerning employment, such as vocational training, safety and health at work and social insurance.

In statements after signing the MoC the Cypriot Minister said that “Greece and Cyprus, being both EU member states, are faced with even more challenges” adding that “the cooperation of the two Ministries in the EU context is indeed very strong, but we noted the need to further enhance it”.

“We have agreed to establish a permanent mechanism of cooperation between our Ministries” she said and noted that this mechanism will help coordinate policies in matters concerning both countries, especially within the EU.

The Cypriot Minister expressed conviction that this cooperation will prove to be for the benefit of the two Ministries, as well as the people of Greece and Cyprus.

In her statements, the Greek Minister said that “our main concern is to strengthen the rights of the workers and minimize the impact of the economic crisis on vulnerable groups”.

“This shield gives us the opportunity, through the MoC we have signed, to have an open channel of communication in matters of vocational training, labor, employment orientation, health, safety and insurance reforms”
