Employment in Cyprus increased by 3.2% in Q2 2008

Cyprus employment rate increased by 3.2% in the 2nd quarter of 2008 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to statistical data (estimate) issued by Eurostat.
The respective growth for the 1st quarter of 2008 was 2.9%.
A press release issued by the European Commission, presenting a first estimate of Eurostat on employment rates in the Euro area and the EU27, said that the number of persons employed in the Euro area (EA15) rose by 0.2% (283,000 persons) in the second quarter of 2008 compared with the previous quarter.
In the same period, the number of persons employed in the EU27 also grew by 0.2% (401,000 persons).
In the first quarter of 2008, in both Euro zone and EU27 employment growth rate recorded an increase of 0.3%.
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, employment grew by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU27 in the second quarter of 2008, after 1.6% and 1.5% respectively in the first quarter of 2008.
Eurostat estimates that, in the second quarter of 2008, a total of 226.4 million of men and women were employed in the EU27, of which 146 million were in the euro area.
