The joint venture partners of the 1000-berth Limassol marina project held a public hearing in the town hall last week to discuss details of the new development that is expected to cost more than EUR 250 mln.
“This is a unique new project that will project Limassol as a leading seafaring and recreation centre in the Mediterranean,” said Marios Lanitis, senior executive of the project’s developer, Lemesos Marina Co. Ltd.
Construction work at the site of the old port is expected to get underway in September and will be able to accept the first pleasure boats in 2011.
“This will probably be the second best in the whole of Mediterranean,” he told the crowd of local and government officials, including Trade and Tourism Minister Antonios Paschalides and Limassol Mayor Andreas Christou.
The town’s mayor said he expects the government support to continue throughout the project that will bring great benefits to the tourism and development of the area, especially the western neighbourhoods of Limassol.
Plans of the area that include recreation areas, luxury seafront housing and other public facilities were presented by the project’s architect, Saverios Vrachimis.
