Cyprus’s cultural week as part of the “European Cultural Month” organized by the French presidency of the EU was launched on Monday in Paris. Ten Greek Cypriot and two Turkish Cypriot artists are presenting their work at seven sites in the French capital, providing a different happening each day of the week.
The French presidency has invited all EU partners to organize a cultural week in Paris. The Greek cultural week will be held early September.
The Cypriot week got underway Monday at the “Nikki Diana Arquardt” gallery at Place des Vosges in the presence of Cyprus’ ambassador in Paris Periclis Nearchou and Director of the Cypriot Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture Eleni Nikita.
Modern Art History professor, Androula Michael, who is in charge of the Cyprus Cultural Week, said the works that will be aim at introducing to the people modern Cypriot artists, noting their work is part of the international cultural scene.
Ambassador Nearchou expressed his satisfaction and referred to the significance of such events in promoting European civilizations.
On Monday, artists Katerina Attalidou and Stephanos Karambaba presented their work while on Tuesday, Costas Mantzalou and Constantinos Counis will exhibit their art at the gallery of Cypriot fashion designer Erotocritos.
On Wednesday photographer Socratis Socratous will display his work on the “La balle au bond” ferry boat docked at the river Seine while on Thursday at the Cristophe Gaillar gallery, Panagiotis Michael will present his art exhibition and artist Lia Lapithi will perform.
On Friday, Melita Kouta will carry out a performance at the Saint-Louis des Invalides. On Saturday, a grant Cypriot gathering will be held at the “Nikki Diana Arquardt” gallery at Place des Vosges.
The Cyprus Cultural Week wraps up on Sunday with artist Panos Kyriacou. The venue will be announced later this week.
