Cyprus has implemented successfully European Union programmes, relating to resources from the Structural Funds, according to Andreas Moleskis, Director of the Planning Bureau and chairman of the monitoring committee for 2004-2006 and 2007-2013 programmes.
Moleskis also said that not a single euro has been lost from these funds.
“The results are already tangible, we have moved quickly and efficiently and have completed infrastructure projects in rural areas and in urban areas in Nicosia, which have improved the quality of life and contributed to increased business activity,” he told a meeting on Friday.
He said that medium size enterprises in manufacturing have been strengthened and small size businesses which have developed tourist activities in the countryside have also been supported through these funds.
In the human resources sector, Moleskis referred to the creation of a basic network for Public Service Employment and said a large number of school teachers have already been trained.
At the same time, procedures for the effective administration of funds and implementation of projects for the period 2007-13 have already begun.
