The Cyprus Tourism Organisation announced today an agreement it has reached with Cypriot tennis champion Marcos Baghdatis.
“Cyprus has already gained a lot from Baghdatis’ international wins and the agreement aims at exploiting the athlete’s international reputation,” in the world of tennis, the press release added.
The Cypriot tennis player won the Beijing 2006 Open, reached the final of the Australian Open in 2006, and was a semi finalist in Wimbledon the same year.
This year he looks set for another deep run at Wimbledon after reaching the third round on Wednesday. His next game is against German qualifier Simon Stadler.
The CTO promotes Cyprus as a tourist destination which offers not only sun and sea but also a variety of other activities, such as cycling, golf, diving and mountaineering.
Baghdatis attended a dinner, orginised by the CTO for British journalists and travel agents in London on 18 June. At the dinner, Baghdatis revealed his intentions to live in Cyprus after concluding his career and become a tennis coach, the press release said.
