Four new Cyprus MPs to be nominated

Four runner ups of leftwing AKEL party in the May 2006 parliamentary elections will be nominated members of the 56-seat House of Representatives following the election of Demetris Christofias as President of the Republic of Cyprus and the appointment of three AKEL MPs in the new Cabinet.

The four new members of the House are Klavdios Mavrohannas, who takes over the seat of Demetris Christofias, in Kyrenia District, Stella Missiaouli, who takes over the seat of the new Justice and Public Order Minister Kypros Chrysostomides, in Nicosia District, Yiannakis Gavriel, who takes over the seat of the new Defence Minister Costas Papacostas, in Famagusta District and Skevi Koukouma, who takes over the seat of new Labour and Social Insurance Minister Sotiroula Charalambous, in Famagusta District.

The new MPs will be sworn in and will assume their parliamentary duties during the next session of the plenary on March 6.
