The Limassol cooperative movement celebrated the 65th anniversary of the town’s cooperative retail company, ESEL-SPOLP, and paid homage to the surviving founders at an event held at the Pattichion municipal theatre.

After the screening of a short film that documented the history of the cooperative movement, Kyriakos Nicolaides, the General Manager of the enterprise took to the podium and referred to how the Union of Limassol Cooperative Societies (ESEL) was established, as well as the Cooperative Supplies Stores of Limassol and Paphos (SPOLP), that later merged to become one of the leading retail businesses on the island.

Nicolaides also mentioned the future plans of the cooperative movement in Limassol and proceeded to honour the surviving members of the first ESEL committee and the first SPOLP board, as well as the founding committee of the Limassol Cooperative Grocery.
