The Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Administration announced that it is granting an amnesty of two weeks for people to return bathers buoys to them, or replace them to their original locations along the coastal areas controlled by the British forces.

“During previous summer seasons, hundreds of SBA Sea Bathers Buoys went missing from the beaches or have been re-positioned. At a cost of CYP 40 per buoy this works out as a serious expense for the Bases Administration,” said an announcement, adding that last year an amnesty was given and many of these buoys were returned.

These buoys are put out at the beginning of the season by SBA Customs and 417 Maritime Troops and it takes two weeks to complete the operation along all of the SBA beaches. The buoys are provided to ensure the safety of swimmers and to mark the areas that all water craft must keep clear of in accordance with the SBA Sea Bathers moorings.

These buoys may be returned to SBA Customs at Akrotiri or Dhekelia or any SBA Police station until Friday May 18. After that, anybody found in possession of the buoys will be prosecuted.
