CYPRUS: Inflation decreases by -0,6% in July

The rate of inflation in July decreased by -0,6%, compared to -1,2% in June 2014 and -0,3% in July 2013, the Statistical Service said on Thursday.

The Statistical Service announced that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July decreased by 1,02 units or 0,86% to 117,35 units compared to 118,37 a month earlier.

This is attributed mainly to decreases in the price of clothing and footwear due to summer sale discounts, as well as to a drop in the prices of certain fresh fruit.

Increases have been recorded in the price of certain fresh vegetables, electricity and petroleum products.

For the period January-July 2014, the CPI recorded a decrease of -1,8% compared to the corresponding period of 2013.

The evolution of the Index during the past two months as well as the percentage changes compared with last year are shown in the table below:
