LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- FooTalk, the free and low cost smartphone calling app, has today launched the world’s first global Facebook calling service. In an upgrade to its existing app, FooTalk users can now sync with their Facebook profile allowing them to call friends and contacts for free anywhere in the world.
The updated FooTalk service is available to users worldwide on either iOS devices (iOS5 and above), or Android devices (version 2.1 or later).
Facebook contacts are listed on a separate tab of the FooTalk address book, which clearly identifies which Facebook friends also have FooTalk and are available for calling. Clicking on a contact allows users to call their Facebook friends for free and provides the option to invite them to the service if they are not already a FooTalker. When a Facebook friend is not available for a free call, the FooTalk user can simply leave a message on their wall.
“With Facebook now connecting over 680 million mobile users, we want to offer people the chance to take this connection over and above simply sharing status updates and images” commented Graeme Hutchinson, co-founder of FooTalk. “We believe this is the next step in how we will use social media to communicate and have made this functionality as simple and easy to use as possible, ensuring that even the least technical Facebook users can connect with each other on a call as well as in the usual way.”
Importantly, FooTalk only retrieves the names and IDs of contacts, with users in full control of posting messages back to Facebook. Contact details can also be removed at any time by the user and will be immediately deleted by FooTalk.
“FooTalk has always aimed to be a customer-centric service. Our app is built around the needs of our users and developing this update was no different,” added Graeme, “Where we've introduced functions to quickly invite and notify Facebook friends from within the app, we've also ensured these are always subject to the user choosing to do so, rather than anything happening automatically or behind-the-scenes. This way users are in complete control of how they use FooTalk with Facebook”
