‘LinkedIn for health’ allows people with health concerns to get answers in one place as well as give and receive support and connect with people with the same concerns as them
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HealthUnlocked, a social network for health related information, today announces its global expansion. Known as the ‘LinkedIn for health’, HealthUnlocked provides an online platform for people to share their experiences of various health conditions, symptoms, treatments, and services.
The online global network is made up of over 500 patient organisations and health support charities, covering in excess of 750 health conditions and providing individuals with information and advice at their fingertips. It also provides an opportunity for people to start a new topic group about other health concerns which may not have yet been raised on the platform. HealthUnlocked already provides NHS Choices’ user-generated, interactive content via the communities section and now hopes to raise awareness and attract a wider audience who may not have known it existed.
“We are passionate about helping people connect with health organisations and individuals with the same medical concerns,” commented Jorge Armanet, CEO HealthUnlocked. “Without ever officially launching we have over 230,000 registered users, showing that HealthUnlocked is already fulfilling a much needed role within healthcare that would otherwise be overlooked.”
Initial research shows that almost 70% of people on HealthUnlocked had never spoken to another patient with the same health condition before joining the platform. With HealthUnlocked’s website running an intelligent database in the background, members are targeted with relevant content, based on their profile. This personalised information ensures that people are being given the best opportunity to participate in on-going conversation and obtain the real benefits of the platform; support, advice and comfort.
Paul Nuki, Chief Editor at NHS Choices said, “HealthUnlocked is a fantastic platform, offering many benefits to healthcare as a whole. We often refer NHS Choices users to HealthUnlocked forums, fully confident they will receive first class peer-to-peer advice. It’s all about expert patients sharing their knowledge and, in turn, creating a new generation of experts. HealthUnlocked creates real efficiencies for the health service as a whole because we know that better informed patients make better choices and achieve better outcomes.”
Mary Silver, a HealthUnlocked user commented, “I’d be lost without HealthUnlocked. It’s the place I go to for help with Parkinson’s and it’s there whenever I need it. It’s a godsend being able to learn from other people’s experiences and fills in the gaps of knowledge and support."
With over 60% of users browsing HealthUnlocked via their mobile devices, today also marks the launch of an optimised browsing experience, allowing mobile and tablet consumers to access the site with ease.
