Edwards expert delivers technical paper on optimising VOD process
CRAWLEY, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Edwards Limited is highlighting its successful mechanical vacuum systems for steel degassing at AISTech, May 5 – 8, 2014 in Indianapolis, IN. Edwards has the largest installed base of dry pumps in the global steel industry and is one of the most experienced suppliers in the market. Visitors to the Edwards’ booth will be able to meet with application experts and discuss which pumps and systems offer the right solution for them.
Edwards’ expert Anke Teeuwsen is presenting a technical paper at the conference, “Advantageous Optimization of the VOD Process with Mechanical Vacuum Pumps” which discusses how replacing steam ejector pumps with mechanical vacuum pumps can lead to significant cost reduction and to the possibility of automation of decarburisation, thereby achieving better process control.
Increasingly mechanical dry pumps are replacing traditional steam ejectors as the vacuum technology of choice. Lower running costs, higher pumping speeds, minimal maintenance and lower environmental impact all lend weight to the case for mechanical dry pumps. The savings in energy costs from using dry mechanical pumps are high compared to steam ejectors.
Anke Teeuwsen, Global Market Sector Manager for Steel Degassing at Edwards commented, “Our pioneering work with mechanical pumps for VD has contributed to the growing numbers of VOD systems also moving over to dry pumps. We are dedicated to ensuring our clients benefit from the sigificant energy reductions and better process control which dry pump systems bring.”
AISTech, the Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Exposition features technologies from all over the world, providing a global perspective on the technology and engineering expertise necessary to power a sustainable steel industry.
