Young Ambassadors Discover the Spirit of the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing

NANJING, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Over 100 Young Ambassadors for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) have experienced how the spirit of the YOG will be shared during the Games in August after testing the educational and cultural activities that will be on offer to the athletes as part of a four-day seminar held in the city.

The 104 Young Ambassadors are all between the ages of 18 and 25 and were nominated by their respective National Olympic Committees. They have demonstrated a desire to live by the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect while using their role to inspire others to do the same. During the seminar, they got to try their hands at a variety of engaging “Learn & Share” sessions such as workshops on career management and nutrition, team-building activities and visits to local landmarks like the Nanjing City Wall. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Nanjing organisers will now use the Ambassadors’ feedback and ideas to finalize the activities that will be available to the athletes at the Youth Olympic Games in August.

The head of the International Olympic Committee YOG Culture and Education Programme Philippe Furrer told the Young Ambassadors at the closing session of the seminar, "Your role is critical in ensuring the Nanjing 2014 experience inspires all participants! You will introduce the spirit of YOG and the Learn & Share activities to every qualified athlete in your delegation and ensure that when they come to Nanjing, they participate in more than their respective competitions. They will discover other cultures, learn important skills for their sporting career and celebrate Olympic values.”

The Nanjing 2014 YOG cultural and educational activities will combine traditional Chinese culture with green concept. Now that the Young Ambassadors have tested the activities, it is hoped they will share their experiences with YOG athletes and the world through social media. This will help spread the enthusiasm of the people of Nanjing to every corner of the world so that young people can come together and share the YOG spirit.
