DEFENCE: Cyprus, Greece and Egypt conclude joint military exercise

Cyprus, Greece and Egypt held a large-scale joint military exercise codenamed ‘Medusa 8’ in the Mediterranean off Alexandria in the presence of Defence Ministers from the three neighbouring countries.


The joint manoeuvres consisted of air and naval units from the three countries and officially concludes on April 19.

Cypriot Defence Minister Savvas Angelides said that the exercise conveys a message of unity, peace stability and growth in the countries of the region.

“With this cooperation we bond our common interests and show we are ready to defend our rights always in the context of prudence. And I believe stability will create conditions for growth in our region,” Angelides said.

Cyprus participates in the joint drills with 50 National Guard members and one vessel, Greece with 445 military personnel and Egypt with 777 servicemen. A total of 45 aircraft and 25 ships are taking part in the exercise.
