The permanent Management Committee of the European Union has decided on the allocation of EU Funds to Member States under the EU program aiming at distributing fruits and vegetables to schools in the EU Member States.
The decision, which will be adopted by the European Commission in the coming days, provides for the allocation of 150 million euros for the period 2014-2015 with the aim of distributing fruits and vegetables. The amount is increased by 60 million euros compared with the previous period.
The program will also finance educational measures to promote fruit and vegetables in order to increase their consumption and encourage healthier eating habits amongst school children.
According to the decision, Cyprus will receive 290,000 euros for the period that starts on 1 August 2014 and ends on 31 July 2015, while the percentage of EU co-financing covers 75% of the total cost of the program.
