Deposits up, loans down, according to Cyprus central bank

An increase was recorded in total deposits in April while total loans showed a decrease, according to the Central Bank of Cyprus’ Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) statistics for the month.
The Central Bank noted that total deposits in April increased by €266,3 mln (in terms of monthly transactions), as compared with a decline of €247,2 mln in March 2014.
The outstanding amount of deposits (before reclassifications, exchange rate and other adjustments) increased by €208,0 mln in April 2014 and reached €46,4 bln.
Total loans in April decreased by €164,3 mln (in terms of monthly transactions), as compared with a decrease of €356,4 mln in March 2014.
The outstanding amount of loans (before reclassifications, exchange rate and other adjustments) decreased by €683,5 mln in April 2014 and reached €61,4 bln.
According to the Central Bank, the data for the reference month of December 2013 have been revised since most of the audited financial statements by the MFIs are now available.
