The number of unemployed persons in Cyprus reached a record high in March this year to 50.940 persons, according to data released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed in March 2014 increased to 50.940 persons in comparison to 49.531 in the previous month.
The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of March 2014, reached 52.772 persons.
In comparison with March 2013, an increase of 8.489 persons or 19,2% was recorded which was mainly observed in the sectors of accommodation and food service activities (an increase of 1.407 unemployed persons), financial and insurance activities (an increase of 1.312), public administration (an increase of 1.230), manufacturing (an increase of 608), trade (an increase of 421), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 1.640 unemployed persons was recorded.
