Two more Cyprus golf courses ready to start in Larnaca, Polis

November 06, 2009 - www.financialmirror.com

The Cyprus Town Planning Authority has scheduled a hearing for the end of November where two golf course developers are expected to argue their case for new 18-hole courses and water desalination plants.
Dimis Karapatakis, the unsuccessful third bidder for the new Larnaca marina and port, hopes to develop his MedGolf Properties project in Tersefanou near Larnaca, while airports operator and retail tycoon Nicos Shacolas wants to start a golf course at his Limni Resorts project near Polis Chrysochou.
The Town Planning hearings are set for November 27 where the two developers will argue about the viability of their projects and the impact these will have on the environment and the local communities. If they get the go-ahead to start construction work, they will pay upfront 30% of the EUR 5 mln licenses and the balance settled within four years.
Greens MP George Perdikis had submitted a parliamentary question in August calling on the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as the Environment Service, to monitor the applications closely as there were “at least 30 requirements” that need to be met by the applicants.
These requirements include proper access roads, water desalination plants in order to secure the independence of the courses from the national water grid and local community projects.
