Cyprus retail trade down provisional 1.7% in August

According to provisional estimates, the turnover volume index of retail trade decreased by 9.7% over the previous month in August to 121.6.
Compared with same month of 2008 the index fell by 1.7%.
For the period January-August 2009 the retail volume index is provisionally estimated to have decreased by 2.3% compared with the corresponding period of 2008.
Meanwhile, final data show that the volume index for July increased by 13.8% compared with June but fell by 3.2% compared with July 2008.
For the period January-July 2009 the index recorded a decrease of 2.4% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
Meanwhile, according to provisional data the value index of retail trade decreased by 9.6% over the previous month in July 2009.
For the period January-August 2009 the value index is provisionally estimated to have a decrease of 1.2% compared with the corresponding period of 2008.
Final data for January-July 2009 show a decrease of 0.8% compared with the corresponding period of 2008.
