Cyprus Shipping Chamber marks 20 years

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber organised a gala dinner at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia last week to celebrate its 20th anniversary, initially established as the Cyprus Shipping Council.
In his address at the event, House President Marios Garoyian stressed the Chamber’s contribution for the promotion of Cyprus shipping and the further upgrade of the island’s shipping infrastructure, conveying the full support and cooperation of the House of Representatives in this effort.
In a short address, Transport Minister Nicos Nicolaides praised the Chamber’s contribution, support and co-operation the last 20 years in all shipping matters relating to technical and policy issues, as well as its involvement in modernising the maritime legislation, and promoting the Cyprus flag.
CSC President Capt. Dirk Fry referred to the close cooperation of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber with the successive governments and other valuable business associates during its 20 years of existence. He also made specific reference to the world financial crisis, which has also affects the shipping industry and expressed the view that the international shipping market will recover soon, thus enabling the shipping sector to continue contributing substantially to the Cyprus economy and society.
