New Cyprus High Commissioner to the UK Andreas Kakouris said Nicosia wanted deeper ties with Britain during a private conversation with Queen Elizabeth II when presenting his credentials.

During the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the High Commissioner had a private meeting with the Queen, in the presence of Foreign Office official Sir Simon McDonald, during which he conveyed the greetings of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

Kakouris pledged to continue the work that has been carried out to deepen the bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and Britain in all fields.

He referred to the close ties between the two countries and the active presence and contribution of a vibrant Cypriot diaspora to the UK.

Moreover, he quickly briefed the Queen on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.
